Image via Wikipedia I am not a contemporary thinker –why do you think that? – it is a blessing to have those in life that do challenge ways of being; not criticizing or analyzing just wonderizing. I woke to this knowing of what the answer is for me. Using critical thought is a behavioral understanding that is only applied when the method of an “outcome” is desired. Therefore to me everything else is “as it is – as it becomes” and is; uniquely random. To develop an understanding of the work that must be done on earth is to be empowered with the purpose that is required to do it. To create social change is to understand the environments we move, integrate and create within. I guess synthesized information can only come about once aligned with a purpose to identify, retrieve and collaborate it. The discipline in balanced life is not to think critically but to know how to act in the situation or environment that calls within the framework. This is the way I relate theory into practice and say “I’m not a contemporary thinker” – I am only a temporary thinker; within the freedom of my mind.
1. Do the Thing You Fear the Most. If there’s one thing that will change your thoughts quicker than anything else, it’s facing your fears. 2. Stand up For Yourself A lot of people have difficulty in standing up for themselves. The first time you do it can be very empowering and your thoughts about yourself will change forever. 3. Stop Talking It’s great to be silent for just a little while. Our thoughts turn inward and we begin to appreciate ourselves just a little more. 4. Strengthen Your Strengths Sometimes we focus too much on trying to strengthen our weaknesses when we should be concentrating on strengthening our strengths. 5. Take A Walk Around an Art Gallery You might not appreciate art or participate in it but it’s great to see the thoughts of others on canvas. It can give us a tiny glimpse of what goes on in other people’s minds. 6. Blindfold Yourself for a Day Walk in the shoes of a blind person for 1 full day, it will forever change the way you think about life. 7. Stand on a Chair for 5 Minutes Per Day Building self discipline is a great way to take Continue Reading

It reminded me of when I listen to older adults – I hear them speak and I listen; remembering the time when I was very small and before my grandparents died all they ever did was listen to my little sparrow-like voice; continually ask – what is it? why is it? … I haven’t stopped; the interesting thing is when my children ask me these quests for ions I say “there are a million different answers to the same question because each moment holds a different perspective”.
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things. We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. Continue Reading

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel. All claimed that they were the best. The most important. The most useful. The favourite. Green said: “Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority”. Blue interrupted: “You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing.” Yellow chuckled: “You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun.” Orange started next to blow her trumpet: “I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the needs of Continue Reading

But where would we be if we could not variate upon a theme with dignity and respect. So I have shared the audio track and I place lyrics that have been written previously attached with a link with credit to whom initiated them. Nothing meant by harming anyone … just listen and hear a “variation upon a theme” accept it for what it is and appreciate the beauty of those who have the ability to inspire others using a different platform. Love and Peace out … here is some “social software” to be a-mused by! “the day the software could have died” A short, short time ago, I can still remember How my laptop used to make me smile. And I knew if I had a mouse, I could point, click, surf, and browse, And make my boss happy for awhile.
My daughter has had much attention paid to her since the breakage of her arm. She came home and announced “I am popular Mummy!”. I have everyone stopping me and asking “what happened?”. Oh dear. Mother me please. Okay. Taking a deep breath and gaining my confidence I asked her to sit down. Now “I said” you notice people stop and ask you things? Yes? Okay … what is happening is they are “interested” in your experience. You are not popular. What has happened to you is an experience, you have “had” and they haven’t. Goodness me – she looked at me as though I had just burst her balloon. No use in pumping a balloon when I can inspire my child to generate her own energy to raise the world – I don’t want to create and feed an ego! Hey amigo! So I advised her to tell as much as what she knows from what she has experienced so that her little friends “learn” something from “her” (my daughter’s) experience. I don’t want her thinking that to have an injury is a way of becoming popular. In my eyes that generates an attention requirement that will only Continue Reading

About TIME The College of Arts and Sciences at American University of Sharjah (AUS) commenced today Wednesday November 28, 2007, an international conference on translation and intercultural communication entitled “Betwixt and Between III 2007: Globalization, Interculturalization and Translation,” at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Sharjah. The three-day event is organized in cooperation with Queen’s University in Belfast, UK. The conference provides an opportunity for researchers to address a number of issues that have “afflicted the human race” such as cultural identity, intercultural encounters and the media. Participating researchers have come from the UAE, UK, Hong Kong, Lebanon, India and Canada. Said Faiq, Professor of Arabic Studies and organizer of the conference, said that the emirate of Sharjah has become a “cultural and intercultural hub where different ethnic and cultural groups live and often meet to discuss the difficult issues of cultural awareness and tolerance.” Reflecting on the issue of translation and globalization, Dr. Faiq presented what he called “the intercultural salad of translation” where he highlighted the role of translation in “carrying-over socio-cultural inputs.” A number of research papers are being presented at the forum. Examples include papers on translating Arabic Islamic texts into English, diasporic writers as translators, gender Continue Reading
