Mystery: Rama’s Bridge or Adam’s Bridge

The 27th of March is the annual festival of Ramnavami (or Ram Nawami) to commemorate the birth of Lord Rama, as per the Hindi mythology. However, the legend Ramayana (meaning the Life of Rama) has always been one of the greatest mysteries for many people. It has supposedly been taken place in the treta yuga (more than 1,700,000 years ago). Now you can guess why many people won’t believe in a legend that dates so many years back. It’s an opportunity for me to say a few words about the bridge in Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka. All people know, from Ramayana, that a bridge, the Rama’s Bridge, was constructed by the “Vanara Sena” in the treta yuga between India, more precisely at Rameshwaram, to the Sri Lanka coast under the supervision of Lord Rama.

The discovery of the bridge existence by NASA some years back, through the space images, revealed a mystery. The NASA people has named it as Adam’s Bridge. A common claim is that Sir Lanka was once rumored to have been the physical location of the Garden of Eden and that’s why it has been called Adam’s Bridge. I wonder if there exists already a battle about this bridge’s name!

The bridge is made up of a chain of shoals, and is about 30 km (apprx. 18 mi) long. Another important thing is that when it’s high tide, the bridge is only about 1.2m below water level. This implies that someone can apparently walk from India to Sri Lanka at low tide. Isn’t it amazing? read more from this writer …
